Bio Marine expands into Scotland with local helping hand
Norwegian fish farming supplier Bio Marine is gaining traction in the Scottish market since establishing a local presence last year.
The company, which specialises in lice skirts and underwater lighting for pens, had its first sale in Scotland at the end of last year.
It believes its growing success in the UK is being driven not only by competitive pricing, but also by practical experience, reliable equipment, and strong local partnerships.
Experienced team
Kilbirnie based net supplier W&J Knox’s experienced team and sector knowledge have played an important role in a recent lice skirt delivery into Scotland, said sales manager Nils Hovden, and Bio Marine is currently in the process of signing a long-term agreement of collaboration with the company.
And with the support of aquaculture expert Chris Mitchell, appointed Bio Marine’s UK representative last year, the Norwegian company is also seeing growing interest in its submersible lighting systems.
Bio Marine has delivered large volumes of underwater lights in Norway and has now secured its first lighting delivery in Scotland, for a leading salmon producer.
Well proven
Scotland’s farming locations and large pens share many similarities with Norwegian farms, making it a natural market for systems already well proven under Norwegian conditions, said Hovden.
Mitchell, a fisheries biologist with extensive experience in the UK aquaculture sector, added: “I am delighted to be able to assist Bio Marine’s expansion into Scottish and Irish aquaculture, now working closely with W & J Knox, a collaboration between two prestigious and time served suppliers.
“Each have respected and valued track records in the development and supply of net pen management systems, backed by world class expertise and sound provenance.”
