Many people were curious about FLS's technology during HavExpo.

FLS offers more flexible use of oxygen on fish farms

The company presented solutions for oxygen storage and backup, and delousing biosecurity, during the HavExpo trade show

Flatsetsund Engineering (FLS), a Norwegian company best known for its delousing systems, introduced a new oxygen product at the HavExpo 2026 trade show that took place in the Bergen area this week.

The OxyBoost system makes it possible to produce, compress, and store oxygen locally at fish farms.

“It is a simple but very practical solution,” said FLS chief executive Lars Georg Backer during a presentation.

Local oxygen storage

OxyBoost works by compressing oxygen from a production facility from around 3-4 bar up to 150 bar and storing it in cylinders. The solution is intended to provide both reserve capacity and more flexible distribution of oxygen.

“When you have [an oxygen] generator, it's really a no-brainer,” said Backer.

According to the Kristiansund company, the system can be used directly from container-based oxygen plants or together with mobile cylinder packages that are moved to where the oxygen is needed.

The company states that a quick fill system can significantly reduce filling time by using reserve cylinders that provide a starting pressure before the booster fills further up to 150 bar.

FLS CEO Lars Georg Backer explains how oxygen can be produced locally, stored in bottles and used later or at another location.

Will strengthen biosecurity

FLS also used HavExpo to showcase a new washing system for delousing equipment. Backer believes biosecurity is becoming increasingly important in the industry.

“Everyone who has worked on workboats or wellboats has become very good at biosecurity. It has become a very important thing.”

He explained that FLS's delouser has both heavy cleaning and disinfection programmes to reduce the risk of spreading infection between locations.

“When you go from one facility to a new location, you must of course also be disinfected and infection-free,” said Backer.

Around 30 boats in the market

FLS states that by the end of the year it will have systems installed on around 30 vessels in the market.

“It is satisfied customers who sell new delousers,” said Backer.

He also says that the company has grown significantly in recent years.

“When we started, we had NOK 15 million in turnover. Now we are at NOK 350 million,” Backer said happily to Fish Farming Expert’s sister site, Kyst.no.
