Man, 22, dies after fall from fish farming support vessel
Tragedy in Scapa Flow, Orkney
A 22-year-old man has died after falling from a salmon farming support vessel in Scapa Flow, Orkney, yesterday afternoon.
The RNLI’s Stromness lifeboat, the Violet Dorothy and Kathleen, was launched to assist with the casualty after HM Coastguard was called to the incident between Hoy and Stromness at 2.22pm.
In a Facebook post, RNLI Stromness said two lifeboat crew members were transferred to the support vessel to assist. The casualty was taken to Stromness Harbour, where he was transferred to medical responders on shore.
Inspector David Hall, of Police Scotland, told the BBC that the young man was pronounced dead a short time later.
He added: “Inquiries are ongoing and the death is not being treated as suspicious.”
A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive told the BBC that the agency was aware of the incident and was liasing with Police Scotland and the Crown Office.
