Marine Harvest Chile shuts down another plant
According to the company this decision is explained by the strong downfall of their production volumes due to the sanitary condition that affects the Chilean salmon industry. The temporal closure will be executed during the second fortnight of October and was communicated to the 513 workers affected.
"Even though the seeding time of three farm sites was approved this year and for another eight sites in 2010, during at least 12 months there will be no smolts entering the sea, which means that we will not have fish for processing during some time" said Álvaro Jiménez.
Marine Harvest Chile stated that these announcements are painful but necessary to ensure the company's sustainability and that this process is being executed through constant communication, transparency and loyalty to the workers and within the framework of what the company considers correct conduct towards its collaborators
