Gardenstown seal cull abandoned amid protests

Published Modified

The Montrose-based Scottish Wild Salmon Company claimed it had been confronted by activists at Gardenstown harbour, BBC News reports.

The company said it was removing firearms from its operations, meaning only acoustic devices would be used to drive seals away from nets.

The protest group, Sea Shepherd, expressed "delight" at the news, BBC News said.

Police Scotland said it was monitoring the situation.
