Aquaculture awards night in Canada

Over two hundred people- including Mayor Charlie Cornfield and other dignitaries- attended the sold-out event which is organized every year by the grassroots Positive Aquaculture Awareness group in Campbell River. Everyone dined on farmed fish (Salmon and Sablefish) and shellfish (Oysters and Mussels) prior to the announcement of the winners of the seven trophies, which were;

  • Business of the Year- sponsored by Aquaculture North America magazine; Sablefish Canada

    • Runners up were Mainstream Biological Consulting Ltd. & Mainstream Canada

  • Environment- sponsored by the BC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences; Ms. Mia Parker of Grieg Seafood BC Ltd

    • Runners up were Creative Salmon Company Ltd & Sharon DeDominicis (Marine Harvest Canada)

  • Leadership- sponsored by Novartis Animal Health; Ms. Barb Cannon of Creative Salmon Company Ltd

    • Runners up were Jason Swartz (Marine Harvest Canada) & Vivian Krause (Fair Questions)

  • Long Term Recognition- sponsored by BC Salmon Farmers Association; Ms. Susan Ovenden of Mainstream Canada

    • Runners up were Bill Pirie (Walcan Seafood Ltd.) & Wayne Gorrie (PR Aqua)

  •  Outstanding Employee Performance- sponsored by Noboco Styro Containers; Mr. German Campos also of Mainstream Canada

    • Runners up were Cam Pirie (Walcan Seafood Ltd) & Matthew Squires (Grieg Seafood BC Ltd)

  • Outstanding Performance by an Area Manager- sponsored by the Akva Group; Mr. Kelly Osborne of Marine Harvest Canada

    • Runners up were Jamie Bridge (Sablefish Canada) & Jonathan Smith (Badinotti Net Services Canada)

    • Runners up were Ray Lainsbury (Noboco Styro Containers) & Sherri McIntyre (Mainstream Canada)
