AquaChile and Biomar launch new fish feed factory in Costa Rica

The new feed factory was officially opened this week and it is the most modern one in Central America. It is equipped with state-of-the-art production technology to provide feed for tilapia and other fresh water species as well as thosee marine fish species produced in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, and other countries in Central and South America.

Besides, this facility is expected to put Costa Rica in the vanguard of fish feed production in Latin America, reactivate employment in the area and contribute to the transference of knowledge and technology.

Felipe Ureta, vicepresident of Biomar Americas, said that producing in this province is a key factor to became an important source of employment and cluster for suppliers of raw materials and services in the area, for the benefit of the whole economy.

Alfonso Márquez de la Plata, general manager of Empresas AquaChile, commented that this opening is part of the internationalisation process of his company "in order to share in other parts of the world that knowledge we have successfully developed in the Chilean salmon industry," he said.

Together with the plant, BioMar will open a completely new research and trial facility for the development of tilapia diets.
