Scots push Label Rouge
The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) announced today that it will be launching fresh Label Rouge (LR) Scottish salmon fillets in key European markets from mid-March.
Scottish LR production is about 8,000 tonnes a year – up by about 30% in the last 10 years – and between 6,000 and 6,500 tonnes of this goes to France, although there is increasing interest in other markets such as Germany, Switzerland and the Far East.
SSC secured Label Rouge accreditation in 2014 and has seen significant interest, including from its French and German customers, to further develop the range and provide premium, pre-rigor fillets.
In order to guarantee the freshest salmon and ensure all the natural goodness and taste is preserved, the premium quality fillet – which are available in 500g or 1kg packs – are vacuum-packed and presented in an innovative and bespoke sleeve.
Craig Anderson, the SSC’s Managing Director, said: “Label Rouge accreditation is very much a premium mark for quality food and we are keen to evolve and develop our offering, to ensure we meet client needs and demonstrate our ability to innovate and deliver added value.
“Our new Label Rouge premium fillets guarantee customers the freshest Scottish salmon, presented in a ready-to-use format, which we know will appeal to leading restaurateurs, foodservice providers and supermarkets in some of our key export markets.”
Label Rouge salmon is also produced by MH Scotland, Scottish Sea Farms, Cooke Aquaculture and Loch Duart.
