Fish farming data cruncher folds
The board of AquaCloud AS has decided to file for bankruptcy
The company writes in a press release that it no longer has funding for continued operations, and lacks the necessary support from the aquaculture industry to realise the plans that were in place. The company considers the consequences of this to be significant.
"The loss of AquaCloud's data platform and tools will set data sharing and collaboration in the industry back several years."
On her Linkedin profile, chairwoman Trude Jansen Hagland writes that this should concern the entire industry.
More structured collaboration
Since its establishment, AquaCloud has developed tools and insights related to fish health, lice coordination, data standardisation, and a modern data platform adapted to the needs of the aquaculture industry. The work has been carried out in close collaboration with state business development agency Siva through its catapult scheme, with projects funded by the Fisheries and Aquaculture Industry Research Fund (FHF), aquaculture stakeholders, Innovation Norway and central research environments. The company says it has contributed to better insight, higher data quality and more structured collaboration in the industry.
"We are very proud of the value AquaCloud has created for the aquaculture industry through better insight into fish health, increased data sharing and strengthened collaboration. These are tools the industry really needs," states the board.
Expertise and tools
AquaCloud writes that it has been a key partner in several research and innovation projects. The loss of the platform and technology is considered by the company as a major setback for the knowledge base, innovation, and research in the aquaculture industry.
The board expresses a clear hope that the values that have been created can be continued through the administrator in the process that now follows. This includes both the technology, ongoing and planned projects, and not least the expertise and tools developed by AquaCloud's skilled employees.
"AquaCloud represents significant innovative power. The knowledge, tools, platform and people who have developed this have great value for the industry – also in a new context," the board writes.
AquaCloud will work closely with the administrator to ensure an orderly and responsible liquidation process.
