New salmon dishes added to M&S Food range in big product shake-up
Four new Scottish salmon products have been introduced by retailer Marks and Spencer as part of move to reinvent its M&S Food stores and online store Ocado as places to do the weekly family shop.
The roast-in-the-bag Scottish salmon fillet, Scottish salmon fillets with a spicy and sticky glaze, and Scottish salmon parcels filled with a creamy cheese and spinach centre are among 30 new fish products. There is also a fish pie en croute containing smoked haddock and Scottish salmon.
M&S, which sources its salmon from Scottish Sea Farms, has also added 52 meat and poulty lines.
Midweek options
“Before we started our transformation of M&S Food, customers told us that they wanted us to be better at having options for midweek family meals. They said we didn’t have what they needed for their shopping lists,” said M&S Food managing director Alex Freudmann in a LinkedIn post. He added that extra products represented a “reset” of its meat and fish categories.
Two other new Scottish aquaculture products are rope-grown mussels in a white wine and parsley sauce, and mussels in a garlic and shallot sauce.
Wild-caught Scottish fish products are hot smoked herring (plain and peppered), kiln smoked kippers, and monkfish, and British wild-caught fish include lemon sole, Dover sole, hake, and scallops.
M&S Food is also offering two basa (catfish) products, Alaskan black cod (sablefish), Alaskan sockeye salmon, cod mornay (unspecified origin), hake (South East Atlantic), Honduran king prawns, Madagascan prawns, Icelandic haddock products, Icelandic redfish, and Mediterranean sea bass products.
