Loch Duart looks to China
The Scotland salmon farmer will make its trade show debut in the country this week
Scotland salmon farmer Loch Duart will exhibit its fish in China for the first time this week when it takes part in the China Fisheries and Seafood Expo in Qingdao.
The event at the Hongdao International Convention and Exhibition Centre runs from Wednesday until Friday and is expected to attract more than 45,000 visitors.
Loch Duart, which harvested its highest-ever annual volume of 8,142 gutted weight tonnes in the financial year to March 31, 2026 (FY26), focuses primarily on the high-end food service market.
“We’re not coming to China to sell another commodity salmon into an already crowded market. We’re here to introduce what we believe is the finest farm-raised salmon in the world,” said Loch Duart sales and processing director Russell Leslie in a press release.
Leslie said Loch Duart’s heritage breed with genetics closer to wild Scottish salmon, a high quality, marine-rich diet, and low stocking densities all contributed to a salmon with outstanding taste, texture, and quality.
'Worth paying for'
“We’re confident that once people taste Loch Duart, they'll understand exactly what sets it apart and why it’s a premium worth paying for.
“We’re particularly interested in meeting premium retailers, leading chefs and restaurant groups who are genuinely looking for something exceptional; customers who recognise that not all farm-raised salmon is created equal and want to offer their customers the very best.”
The sales director said Loch Duart’s team would be in Hall B9 at stand 0418, “sharing our story and, most importantly, letting the quality of our salmon speak for itself”.
A wider reach
More than two-thirds of Loch Duart’s £65.3 million sales revenue in FY26 came from overseas as the company cast its net wider. Turnover was £29.3m in Europe, up from £9.8m in FY25, and sales to the rest of the world reached £17.9m (FY25: £9.5m). Sales revenue in the UK was £18m (£35.8m).
This year, the company has exhibited at Seafood Expo North America in Boston and Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, and joined a trade mission to India, which recently scrapped high tariffs on fish imported from the UK.
