Rofjell a new giant

Norway: Aas Mek. Verksted AS delivered on 25 May 2013 its new building No. 190, “Rofjell”, “the world’s largest well-boat” to the company Rostein AS.

Rostein AS is a family owned company and one of the world leaders within the wellboat business with a fleet of 10 well-boats. The main market is the salmon farming industry in Norway. The company focuses on experienced crew, innovation and safety. Rostein AS is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified by Bureau Veritas. Rofjell is the 12th new building delivered to Rostein AS by Aas yard, and the boat will go into long-term charter agreement with Salmar ASA at Frøya.

Energy economizing There is great emphasis on energy saving measures. All heating is done by using waste heat from the exhaust of the main engine. For further energy savings, all exterior lighting and underwater lighting in the cargo holds are of LED light type.

Loading arrangement The cargo capacity is 4500 m3 in 2 rooms with sliding walls. Loading capacity will be about 6-700 tons per hour. The boat is equipped with’’ indoor’’ systems for grading and counting fish via a system of pressure when unloading/loading cargo. In addition, there is mounted a double vacuum pump system with 2 x 10 000 l tanks with grading and counting equipment.

The boat has its own system for UV treatment of all water in and out of the cargo holds. UV facility is affiliated purification filter of 150 micron filtering before UV treatment of sea water into or out of the cargo holds. UV filter is also used for the collection of sea lice in connection with delousing the fish. This has a purification capacity of 40,000 m3 of water per hour. All wastewater from the delousing filters run through filters for separation of dry substance / lice and further UV treatment of the purified waste water. All lice collected in container disposed on board or delivered for analysis.

Designated system is installed to monitor oxygen levels and water quality in the well, production and mixing of oxygen in the cargo hold, ozone systems for disinfection of cargo and piping and also the water in the hold which have been in contact with the fish after unloading.

For transport of fish in a closed system its installed equipment for degassing and cleaning water for removing CO2 and regulation of PH.

All systems, machinery, monitoring the like remotely controlled and logged by bridge via remote control and automation systems.

The vessel is also equipped with a new two color LED light system and underwater cameras for monitoring of the fish during transportation and loading, and when operating in the hold.

For cleaning of cargo holds and piping, is fitted with a automatic cleaning and disinfecting system of the company’s own developed water mist system, which has proven to be very effective, by reducing the consumption of chemicals. In addition, there is mounted manual pressure washers, foaming equipment and ozone disinfection system.

Cranes For handling of cargo, hoses, assistance, etc, it is mounted six cranes on deck.
