Smoked salmon is Christmas favourite

The research, released by OnePoll, shows that 93 per cent of people look forward to festive food and drink and that smoked salmon is one of the top 22 foods enjoyed on Christmas Day.

Young’s Seafood’s own research shows that an extra 2.1 million shoppers buy smoked salmon at Christmas (Kantar Worldpanel – in the four weeks up to 5th January 2014) spending £24m, compared to £9m in an average 4 week period during the rest of the year. This is part of the reason why the company takes on over one thousand more staff during the Christmas period.

Commenting on the new research, Iain Lowrie, Category Management Director at Young’s Seafood Limited, said: “We welcome this research showing that the average family starts Christmas Day with a smoked salmon breakfast. Drawing on our traditional smoking skills, we see a significant increase in demand for the smoked salmon we process during the festive season, and it’s great to see that smoked salmon is an important part of Christmas Day for so many people.”

Pete Ward, Deputy Chief Executive of Young’s Seafood Limited, added: “Smoked Salmon is such a Christmas favourite and we’re proud to use our traditional smoking skills, that are part of the heritage of the communities where we are based, to help make the festive season special for families across the UK. Our teams work incredibly hard during the festive season to help create the smoked salmon dishes that so many people enjoy at Christmas and we’re very proud of the work they do.”
