Seafood in Schools coordinators in training

Published Modified

As part of their induction, they visited Peterhead market and harbour, went onboard vessels, and toured Macrae's and International Fish Canners in Fraserbugh.

"We were overwhelmed by the variety of fish on the market and by the size of the factory operations," said Ruathy Donald.  "It has given us a good understanding of what is available, how it is caught and handled, and what careers are available in the industry, and this is invaluable information to take into schools."

The four start work in earnest this week as Scottish schools return from the summer holidays.  They will be running workshops for pupils of all ages to teach them where seafood comes from, how it gets to our plates and why is good to eat as part of a healthy diet.  Schools follow up with activities in all areas of the curriculum.
