Salmon price dip predicted
According to Gistkeodegard: “There is a substantial price pressure on large sized fish due to good availability after the mild winter. This far into the year 443.8k tonnes of salmon has been shipped over Norwegian borders. This is an increase of 29.1k tonnes from the same period last year, where the higher volumes are the main reason for the drop in prices seen over the last weeks.
“Vaccine sales in Norway increased significantly in May. However, one should keep in mind that this might be due to the vaccination scheme earlier and also that the total number is low compared to the sales level during the summer months. The ocean scientists now estimate that there is an 80% chance that an El Nino might occur in H2 this year. There is hence a risk for a severe negative effect on the fisheries in H2. Furthermore, the sea lice challenges in the central parts of Norway have been heavily discussed during the last couple of months. Hordaland and Møre og Romsdal are still the most challenged counties and the Norwegian Food Authorities are worried when it comes to the increased resistance towards treatments and reduced efficiency of some of the treatment options available. Luckily, in the areas north of Nordland the conditions are far better.”
