Mainstream Canada took home two of the seven awards handed out on Saturday night at the 10th Aquaculture Awards gala dinner at a sold-out venue in Campbell River. Fernando Villarroel, General Manager for the company's Canadian operations took home the Leadership Award, and Richard Finch received the Environment Award. Both awards are indications of the company's move to achieve full compliance with regulatory regimes and its commitment to conduct its business in Canada in a professional and respectful manner. Employees of Marine Harvest also received two awards.

In a Press Release, the Positive Aquaculture Awareness Society stated that it is "Committed to celebrating the aquaculture industry’s star performers".In addition to the awards ceremony, the group also took the opportunity to raise money in support of three important local not-for-profits that help benefit BC’s wild salmon and the local economy.

“We’re fortunate to be in a business that has growth potential even during these tough economic times,” said PAA Vice President, Leanne Brunt. “It’s nice that we’re able to celebrate our successes and also have the opportunity to give back to three important charities,” Brunt said. President, Cory Percevault added: “One of the seven awards granted in the Long Term Service Award; an award given to those who have been a part of this business for many years. The number of nominees with over 20 years experience was quite surprising and shows that aquaculture has a real history here on the coast.”
