15 tonnes of salmon stolen from industrial area near Oslo airport
According to the police, the fish had a market value of £136,000
A truck driver notified the police on Saturday morning after a trailer loaded with fish disappeared from an industrial area at Gardermoen, an area primarily known as the location of Oslo's main airport, which is a key export hub for the Norwegian salmon industry.
Police gained access to GPS tracking and followed the signal to Berger, around 80 miles to the south, but the tracking stopped there without the trailer being found, operations manager Fredrik Solbakken in the Eastern Police District told newspaper Romerikes Blad.
The patrol secured video from the area, but were unsure if it was a misunderstanding. After further searching, the police found the trailer at Skedsmokorset, northeast of Oslo and around 18 miles south of Gardermoen airport. The trailer was untouched and still full of fish, but the signs had been changed – something the police describe as “strange”.
The trailer contained 15 tonnes of fish worth around NOK 1.8 million (£136,000). Police are now investigating how it ended up there, and suspect the cargo may have been on its way out of the country.
