Idaho feed mill becomes first in US to achieve ASC certification
Rangen Aquaculture Nutrition feed mill in Buhl, Idaho, has become the first in the United States to achieve Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) feed certification.
The feed plant is now certified to produce feed for freshwater trout, salmon, seriola and cobia, shrimp, and tilapia produced to ASC standards.
“Rangen achieving the first ASC feed certification in the United States is a significant step for the US aquaculture sector,” said Aisla Jones, feed engagement manager at ASC.
“This certification demonstrates a trailblazing step forward in responsible sourcing and production. By embedding sustainability at the very start of the aquaculture value chain, Rangen is helping to build a more transparent and trusted seafood industry for the future.”
'The strictest standards'
Carrington Gorman, aquaculture director for Rangen Inc., said the company brings decades of expertise to specialty aquaculture with a focus on strict specifications and quality control standards.
“Demonstrating alignment with the ASC Feed Standard makes Rangen an industry leader for American feed companies, showing we’ve met the world’s strictest standards to deliver an exceptional product that’s not only nutritious for animals, but sustainable for the environment,” added Gorman.
The ASC Feed Standard and ASC Farm Standard are designed to work together to promote responsible aquaculture from feed to final product. While the ASC Farm Standard drives environmental and social responsibility on aquaculture farms, the ASC Feed Standard ensures that ingredients used in feed are responsibly sourced and produced.
From October 31, 2025, ASC-certified farms are required to use ASC-conforming feed from certified mills, making Rangen’s achievement especially timely for US producers preparing for the next stage of industry transformation.
