High-margin products boost Coast Seafood profits amid low salmon prices
Norwegian fish exporter and processor Coast Seafood delivered a profit before tax of NOK 124 million in 2025, up from NOK 61 million in 2024.
The privately-owned company said the improvement in earnings is the result of a deliberate strategy to prioritise the most profitable business areas within the group rather than focusing solely on sales volume.
The group's operating revenue in 2025 was NOK 7.3 billion, down from NOK 7.9 billion in 2024. This was due to a combination of lower sales volumes and lower market prices. The group maintains a strong financial position, with an equity ratio of 43%.
“The strong 2025 result demonstrates the Coast team's ability to navigate change and market turbulence," said chief executive Sverre Søraa. "By increasing our focus on higher-margin processed products, we have improved profitability during a period of lower volumes and lower salmon prices. Coast is now a full-service seafood supplier capable of meeting customer demands globally while strengthening the competitiveness of Norwegian seafood.”
Increasing consolidation
The company said the seafood industry is undergoing significant change and is characterised by increasing consolidation within the aquaculture sector, where medium-sized and large players continue to strengthen their market positions. This reinforces the need for clear value creation throughout the supply chain and more targeted and innovative market development.
Coast Seafoodsaid it is therefore continuing to strengthen its role as an active value creator and commercial partner, with particular emphasis on differentiation, product development, and market adaptation across species and market segments.
Consumer-friendly products
A key element of this strategy is the continued investment in processed and consumer-friendly products, including ready-to-eat solutions. These include prepared meals and portioned products aimed at the retail and convenience segments, helping to increase customer value, strengthen market positioning, and improve flexibility in response to changing consumer preferences and distribution channels.
Coast's ambition is to increase the share of processed products within the group's overall portfolio over time.
The Coast Group employs nearly 900 people in market development, sales activities, and the ongoing development of production capacity and capabilities.
