Benchmark Genetics names new board

Ova and genetics services supplier Benchmark Genetics has announced the appointment of its new board of directors, effective immediately.

The new board is comprised as follows:

Chair – Tor Vikenes

Vikenes is an accomplished senior executive with more than 25 years of experience in the seafood and aquaculture industries. He holds an MBA and has served in several leadership roles in major Norwegian seafood companies, including as chief executive of Norway Pelagic ASA.

“His career spans executive management, strategic development and value creation across multiple segments of the marine value chain. With his extensive industry insight and operational experience, he will provide strong governance leadership and strategic direction as Benchmark Genetics enters its next phase of growth,” said Benchmark Genetics.

Tor Vikenes has more than a quarter of a century's experience in seafood and aquaculture.

Board member – Renate Larsen

Larsen is an experienced board professional with a strong background in strategic leadership across the Norwegian seafood and marine sectors. She has held senior executive roles and serves on several corporate boards, contributing expertise in governance, business development and long-term value creation.

Larsen holds a degree from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) and brings valuable insight into both operational and strategic decision-making within aquaculture, said the company.

Board member – Siri Vike

Vike is a seasoned aquaculture specialist with over 25 years of experience in fish farming, fish health and welfare management. She holds a PhD from the University of Bergen and has led teams and functions within diagnostics and welfare in the seafood industry.

“Her strong technical background, combined with practical operational understanding, will support Benchmark Genetics in advancing innovation and strengthening genetic solutions that promote fish robustness and welfare across markets,” said the company.

The board also includes two representatives from Benchmark Genetics owner Novo Holdings: senior partner Johan Hueffer and partner Aleks Engel, who contribute strategic investment insights and the ownership perspective.

“With this board composition, Benchmark Genetics is well-positioned to strengthen its role as a global leader in aquaculture genetics,” the company said in a press release.

“The company will continue to deliver biosecure genetic solutions for salmon and shrimp, expand its advisory and genotyping services to support producers worldwide, and maintain a strong focus on innovation, sustainability and long-term industry value creation.”
