Scientist recognised for work in advancing aquaculture
A scientist involved in aquaculture research has received special recognition from the Latin American and Caribbean Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society.
Dr Adriana Artiles was recognised for her contributions to genetic innovation, technological development, and the advancement of a more productive, efficient, and sustainable aquaculture industry across the region.
Chapter president Luis Andrés González Agraz presented the award during the LACQUA 2026 conference in San Salvador, El Salvador, last week.
Artiles, who has a PhD in biological sciences fron the University of Havana and works for the San Diego-headquartered Centre for Aquaculture Technologies (CAT), has built a career spanning molecular biology, genetics, aquaculture research and the commercial application of science.
Genetics solutions
At CAT, Artiles works with producers and partners worldwide to understand their needs and identify the right genetic solutions to address their challenges and opportunities.
“Congratulations to Adriana on this well-deserved recognition. We’re incredibly proud to have Adriana as part of the CAT team and to see her contributions to aquaculture recognised in this way,” said CAT executive Geir Olav.
“It is an incredible honour to receive this recognition,” said Artiles. “I am very grateful to the Latin American and Caribbean aquaculture community and to the colleagues, collaborators, and teams who have been part of my journey. I look forward to continuing to contribute to the advancement of genetics and sustainable aquaculture across the region.”
