Cermaq's new closed cage delivered to farm in Norway
Norwegian floating closed containment maker Aquafarm Equipment has published pictures of its latest pen arriving at salmon farmer Cermaq’s site in Horsvågen, Northern Norway.
“After months of design, engineering, and preparation, Aquafarm Equipment’s closed-containment cage has arrived,” Aquafarm Equipment wrote on LinkedIn.
“The journey from Harstad to Horsvågen covered more than 30 hours at sea, through changing tides, shifting winds, and narrow weather windows. Now, the structure is safely in place and ready for the next phase of operations.
“Projects like this are the result of precision, teamwork, and trust - between engineers, partners, and the sea itself.”
The huge pen is comprised of modular glass reinforced plastic sections made in Latvia and transported to Hardstad for assembly.
Aquafarm Equipment has also been transporting closed containment pen components to the Port of Neom (formerly Duba port), Saudi Arabia.
The company said that in Neom, Aquafarm Equipment isn’t just delivering a cage, it’s building an entire aquaculture facility. The project includes an onshore base with operations offices, warehouse, power connections, and a feed barge. It will also operate the facility for three years as part of a proof of concept phase before the client, Topian, takes over.
“In Norway, we deliver single Aquafarm units,” said project manager Martin Ramstad. “In Neom, we’re responsible for the full-scale facility, from construction to operation. It’s a big step for us as a company.”
If progress continues according to plan, the first yellowtail kingfish (Seriola) will be stocked by May or early summer 2026.
