This small island is located to the west of Queilén in the Chiloé Island, where there are two colonies of Magellan penguins and Humboldt penguins.

The Port Captaincy of Chonchi has fined the salmon producing company Mainstream Chile for the unauthorized extraction of sand and aggregates in the Conejos Islet. Moreover, LT Daniel Hausdorf, Captain of the Port of Chonchi, explained that there is a need to carry out a comprehensive study to determine if there is environmental impact to the marine biodiversity.

Meanwhile, Francisco Miranda, general manager of Mainstream Chile, stated that performing sustainable aquaculture has been always the policy of his company, recognizing that those actions in the Conejos Islet are far away from their methods of operation.

He added that after an internal investigation, the company took all the necessary measures to avoid these unfortunate events from happening again.
