The Chilean salmon producing company Friosur is in talks with the German-funded company Ventisqueros over a possible merger. Both companies have been very active in recent years.

In 2012, Friosur acquired the salmon assets in Pesquera Landes worth US$ 36 million. Meanwhile, the next year Friosur paid US$ 9.5 million for water rights and aquaculture licences formerly belonging to Pacific Seafood, according to the financial journal Estrategia. Friosur currently has a maximum production capacity of between 80,000 and 100,000 tonnes per year.

In turn, Ventisqueros, which belongs to the German group Schörghuber, acquired the salmon producing company Congelados del Pacífico in 2013, reaching an estimated production capacity close to 50,000 tonnes per year.
