Friosur and Trusal aim for the 12th Region
According to the Undersecretary of Fisheries (Subpesca), those companies are followed by Cultivos Marinos Chiloé (133 applications), Mainstream Chile (94), Invertec Pesquera del Mar de Chiloé (77), Salmones Alpen (70), Nova Austral (64), Salmones Islas del Sur (62), Riverfish (61), Salmones Multiexport (59), Salmones Erezcano (47), Cameron (47), Cultivos Marinos Lago Yelcho (44), Skysal (43), Congelados del Pacífico (38), Acuícola AquaSal (37), Salmones Caleta Bay (36), Acuimag (32), Acuícola Cordillera (31), Salmones Itata (28) and AquaChile (20).
Currently, there are 1,200 requests for salmon farm concessions in that region and it is expected that half of those applications will be approved.
Likewise, according to the financial journal Estrategia, on the basis of 600 salmon farm concessions approved (half of what is requested) it has been calculated that the 12th Region might produce 30,000 tonnes of salmon and provide around 3,000 new jobs in its first year of operation.
