Paolo Bray, director of Friend of the Sea, explained via videoconference how his institution uses FAO guidelines to certify the sustainability of wild and farmed seafood stocks. He also answered questions from representatives from salmon and mussel producing companies and artisanal fishermen that attended the event.

Likewise, the regional monitor for Latin America, Angel Herrera, and the sales executive of the certification company SGS, Arturo Silva (photo), detailed how that compliance of those standards is verified in the country by SGS.

In Chile, Friend of the Sea has certified mussels from Pesquera Apiao, Huimar, Ria Austral and Toralla as well as Squid from Seatec EIRL.
