Fresh fillets for USA still looking good
In a recent statistics brief by Aqua.cl, the United States National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) displays the results of this year’s salmon imports as of September. In total, the U.S. has imported 65 thousand tons of fresh salmon fillets, equating to a total of US$ 519 million in sales. 90% of these fillets arrived from Chile, of which captured 89% of the total sales, equalling 58,618 tons imported and US$ 464 million generated in sales. Canada is responsible 4% of the total import volume and 5% of the total sales, with 2.809 tons and US$ 28 million respectively. Norway takes 3% of the market share in terms of volume and sales, with 1,652 tons and US$ 13.5 million in sales; and the UK takes the remaining 2% of the market share, with 1,490 tons and US$ 9.9 million in sales. With respect to Chile’s volume and sales figures for the same period last year, this year’s volume has increased by 9% and sales by 15%.
