FSV Scotia strengthens Mowi’s operations in Scotland
Today, the processing vessel “FSV Scotia,” delivered earlier this year from Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted, is being christened.
FSV Scotia was delivered in May 2025 and immediately went into operation for Mowi Scotland. The vessel has had a successful start-up phase thanks to close cooperation with Mowi and strong efforts from the crew. According to the company, feedback has been very positive, both on efficiency and on fish quality.
– “Mowi is very pleased to welcome FSV Scotia to Mallaig, the hub of our operations in Scotland, and we are confident that this technologically advanced vessel and the operational experience of Trident Aqua Services will help facilitate Mowi’s plans for sustainable growth in Scotland. This new vessel, together with our existing infrastructure in Mallaig and Fort William, provides us with the capacity to realize these growth plans in the decades to come,” said Scott Nolan, Sales Director at Mowi Scotland.
Technical specifications
FSV Scotia is based on the Aurora 500 SD design from Sirius Design & Integration. The vessel measures 50 meters in length and 12 meters in width, with an RSW capacity of 500 m³. It is equipped with a modern processing plant supplied by Baader, tailored for gentle and efficient harvesting.
– “FSV Scotia is designed and built with fish welfare, biosecurity, and preservation of fish quality in mind throughout the entire harvesting process. The fact that the vessel is already delivering strong results for our customer underlines the importance of close collaboration and skilled crew,” said Arild Aasmyr, CEO of Trident Aqua Services.
The vessel is powered by two main propellers and equipped with Brunvoll FU-series tunnel thrusters, ensuring excellent maneuverability in challenging areas. The main propellers are driven by electric motors via reduction gears, optimized with variable speed for high efficiency across the power range.
The hull was built by Finomar in Poland before outfitting at Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted in Norway. FSV Scotia is the fourth newbuild delivered from Fitjar to Trident Aqua Services, following Aqua Mist, Multi Arctic and FSV Superior, in addition to the extensive rebuild of Multi Safety.

A proud milestone
The delivery of FSV Scotia is, according to the company, a clear signal of continued growth in Scotland’s aquaculture industry.
– “Such vessels not only strengthen operational capacity but also highlight the close connection between our work and the communities that support it,” said Tavish Scott, Chief Executive of Salmon Scotland.
The official naming ceremony is being celebrated today in Mallaig, Scotland, where industry representatives, local stakeholders, and community members are gathered to honor FSV Scotia and its important role in the Scottish aquaculture industry, while also marking a strong partnership between Mowi and Trident Aqua Services.
– “This is a proud day for Mallaig and for everyone contributing to the sustainable development of Scottish salmon farming. The vessel also brings important jobs and expertise along the west coast and demonstrates how collaboration between Scottish teams and international expertise will strengthen our capacity in the years ahead,” Scott concluded.
