Four salmon escape incidents this autumn

According to the Scottish Government statistics, which shows escapes up until 21 November 2010, there were four escapes from Scottish salmon farms this autumn.

There was a breach of containment at Marine Harvest’s site in Lochalsh on 30 September where 100 salmon escaped due to equipment failure.

Then on the 9 November, 4000 salmon escaped from Loch Duart's site in Laxford due to a hole in the net.

A hole in the net was also to blame for another escape incident involving the Scottish Salmon Company’s site in Vacasay on 13 November. 2,766 salmon escaped from the site in the Western Isles.

Then, on the 21 November, 36 salmon escaped from a Marine Harvest site in Kingairloch due to problems with equipment.

So far in 2010, 17,987 salmon have escaped from farms in Scotland. In November 2009,  a total of 131,971 salmon had escaped.
