Mowi renews software partnership with ScaleAQ

Standardised, global, cloud-based system allows us to quickly scale up new solutions, says fish farmer's IT director

The world’s biggest salmon farmer, Mowi, has renewed its software solutions partnership with aquaculture industry supplier ScaleAQ.

“This speaks volumes about trust, technology, and shared ambitions for the future of aquaculture,” said ScaleAQ Software sales director Stephen Budgeon in a press release.

Mowi group IT director Jørn I. Berg said: “Our digital strategy, Mowi 4.0, is about using technology and data to achieve greater sustainability, improved fish health, and more efficient operations.

“Through our ‘MOWInsight’ platform, we report and analyse large volumes of data that provide us with insights and a better foundation for decision-making. Software from ScaleAQ, which we use across all our farming units, plays a central role in this work. A standardised, global, cloud-based system allows us to quickly scale up new, valuable IT solutions across the company.”

At the core of ScaleAQ’s solutions are three main applications, collectively known as Mercatus.

These are:

  • Farmer, which provides biological control and traceability
  • Future, a planning and forecasting tool
  • Finance, for valuing biological assets used in financial reporting

ScaleAQ said these systems are increasingly integrated with new solutions such as FeedManager, which offers remote oversight of feed inventory and user-friendly tools for feed management.

“Going forward, ScaleAQ and Mowi will also collaborate on developing new insight tools for production, aimed at transforming biological and operational data into better analysis and decision support,” said Budgeon.

Thomas Wiig, group chief digital officer at ScaleAQ, said the renewal of the partnership with Mowi reflected the value of building technology together with the industry and leveraging data across systems.

“It demonstrates not only trust, but also a shared vision for how digital tools can support both growth and responsibility in aquaculture.”
