Chilean coho salmon farmer Salmones Aysén has won a court action to win an insurance pay-out for losses causes by harmful algal blooms seven years ago, Fish Farming Expert's Chilean sister site, Salmonexpert.cl reports.

Chile’s Supreme Court ruled that Penta Insurance – now called Liberty – was liable to pay compensation after the blooms in March 2016.

Salmones Aysén argued that it was covered by the policy signed between the parties, for fish and equipment, and for 12 farming sites.

The court also granted the salmon farmer’s request that the insurance contract should be annulled, and the insurer should refund payments made by Salmones Aysén between June 30, 2015, and the end of the insurance contract.

The amount of compensation was not revealed.
