Work on the 150-tonne capacity barge has been completed and Gael Force is now waiting on a four-day weather "window" demanded by insurers before arranging for the barge to be towed from its Inverness site around the north of Scotland to Sutherland.

The barge - the 78th concrete barge produced by Gael Force, with 79 and 80 in production - is the first of two ordered by Loch Duart. The second, also with a 150t capacity, will be ready in the first part of 2018.

Three barges ordered by Marine Harvest will also use the SeaFeed system.

'Smooth transition'

Gael Force sales director Jamie Young said the feeders had been built using proven equipment technology used by feed manufacturers, with safety at is heart and with in-house bespoke control software.

He said: "This is a momentous occasion for Gael Force and we are delighted to be working so closely with Loch Duart to assure the SeaFeed system works to their highest standards.

“In fact we are so committed to assuring Loch Duart receive the highest attention we are sending two engineers with this first barge to work closely with the site operators to assure a smooth transition, and offer extensive training.”

Gael Force, which employs around 200 people, launched the SeaFeed system at the Aqua Nor trade exhibition in Trondheim in August, when it announced the order from Marine Harvest.
