Norway shattered its salmon export record by 9% last week

Norway set a new export record for salmon last week, sending 43,555 tonnes (round weight) abroad. That export total was 9% more than the week before – which was also a new record – and 12.5% above the same week last year.

To put it in perspective, such a volume is more than a fifth of what Scotland - the world's third-largest Atlantic salmon producer - harvests in a whole year.

So far this year, Norway has exported 1.04 million tonnes of salmon, compared to 992,000 tonnes in the same period in 2025.

Price

The spot price of Norwegian salmon decreased marginally by NOK 0.4 per kilo last week (week 34), down to NOK 68.65 (£5.39) per kilo. That price was NOK 10.56/kg above the same week last year.

The average salmon price so far this year is NOK 76.90/kg, compared to NOK 77.13/kg at the same time a year ago.

Cod

In week 34, 338 tonnes (round weight) of farmed cod were exported from Norway. This is 54% more than the week before, and twice as much as the same week in 2025.

So far, 10,146 tonnes (round weight) of farmed cod have been exported, 8% more than a year ago.

The export price for farmed cod was NOK 88.79/kg in week 34, up NOK 4.06/kg from the previous week, and NOK 17.60/kg above the price in the same week last year.

The average export price of farmed cod so far this year is NOK 77.93/kg, 16% more than in the corresponding period in 2025.
