Feeling the heat: growth of fish in Atlantic Sapphire's Bluehouse fcility in Florida was impacted by warm water.

Chillers deliver stable temperatures for Atlantic Sapphire

Florida salmon farmer Atlantic Sapphire has now brought temperatures across all grow-out systems at its land-based facility in Miami-Dade County down to approximately 14 degrees Celsius following the delivery of chillers, it said in a market update today.

The temperature is in line with targeted levels, said the company.

“Having stable temperatures at the right level is a pre-requisite to achieve good biological performance,” stated the company, which harvested a total volume of approximately 365 tonnes (head on gutted) in the three months ended September 30, 2023.

Net biomass gain for the same period was approximately 100 tonnes RLW (live weight).

“As described in the company update on September 19, 2023, the Q3 2023 biomass gain was negatively impacted by the operational challenges with high water temperatures in the quarter. The standing biomass as of September 30, 2023 was approximately 2,350t RLW,” said Atlantic Sapphire, which will release its full Q3 2023 operational update on November 1, 2023.
