Atlantic Sapphire poised to turn up the volume

Miami-based on-land salmon farmer Atlantic Sapphire is poised to increase weekly production volume following the completion of its first harvest of 1,000 tonnes.

“The company will be expanding its footprint in (US store) locations of Giant Eagle, H-E-B, New Seasons Market, Publix, Safeway, Sobey’s, Sprouts Farmers Market and Wegmans,” it said in an article on its website.

Chief executive Johan Andreassen claimed in the article that Bluehouse Salmon would provide Americans “with a quality and freshness they have not experienced before”.

‘A game changer’

Rich Castle, director of seafood of Giant Eagle, which has 474 stores in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, and Maryland, said: “The extra freshness and the mild taste are a game changer. We are thrilled to be part of the launch in our region and are looking forward to a long-term partnership.”

In an Oslo stock exchange announcement this week, Atlantic Sapphire said it was close to completion of phase 1 of its Bluehouse facility in Florida, which will allow it to scale up production to 10,000 tonnes a year.

It said it had also secured key US water permits to produce up to 90,000 tonnes onsite and has a targeted harvest volume in 2031 of 220,000 tonnes.
