Seafood businesses to cluster in Glasgow for inaugural summit

The Scottish Ocean Cluster, established to maximise the value of seafood products, is to hold its first summit this week.

The day-long event, on September 9 at Glasgow's Technology and Innovation Centre, will bring together aquaculture businesses, technology innovators, environmental organisations and academics, all with a shared interest in creating value from Scotland’s seafood by‑products.

Organised by the Scottish Ocean Cluster and the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC), the summit includes keynote talks, panel discussions and a series of flash presentations - two‑minute pitches highlighting research, technologies, capabilities, or needs.

Among those participating are Loch Long Salmon, Blue Food Performance, Tidal Vision, Zero Waste Scotland, and Hatch Blue.

Seafood Scotland chief executive Donna Fordyce, who leads the Scottish Ocean Cluster, will open the event and welcome delegates. And the keynote presentation will be given by Thor Sigfusson, founder of the Iceland Ocean Cluster.

The Scottish Ocean Cluster – formed by the IBioIC, Seafood Scotland, Zero Waste Scotland, Opportunity North East, and Aberdeenshire Council – was launched in March 2025.

Based on the Icelandic model, it provides a forum for producers, processors, researchers, and technology providers to share knowledge and unlock the potential across the seafood supply chain.
