Chilean salmon by-products processor Fiordo Austral has announced a partnership with German circular economy expert Saria, which gives the European company a 36.45% stake in Fiordo Austral.

The transaction marks the beginning of a new phase of development for Fiordo Austral and strengthens one of the key players in the Chilean salmon farming industry's value chain, reports Fish Farming Expert’s Chilean sister site Salmonexpert.cl.

Fiordo Austral brings nearly 30 years’ experience managing biological by-products from Chilean salmon farming, as well as developing a leading global position in the marketing of salmon meal and oil.

International markets

Currently, the company produces premium fishmeal and fish oil, hydrolysed proteins, peptones, bio-stimulants, and fertilisers that supply the animal nutrition, pet food, aquaculture, and agricultural industries, both in Chile and in international markets.

Saria, through its Bioceval business unit, adds international experience, technical expertise in the processing of animal by-products, a global commercial platform, and extensive experience in the development of high value-added ingredients.

Fiordo Austral said the addition of Saria will allow it to expand its presence in strategic markets, accelerate the development of new applications, and broaden its offering of specialised products.

Operational responsiveness

It will also strengthen its infrastructure and operational responsiveness, reinforcing its role as a strategic partner of the Chilean salmon industry and contributing to the sector's continuity and competitiveness.

"Saria's investment marks a significant milestone in Fiordo Austral's history,” said Rafael Ariztía, president of Fiordo Austral.

“We share a long-term vision and the conviction that there is significant potential to continue developing higher-value solutions for the industry.

Technical expertise

“Saria's international experience, technical expertise, and commercial network naturally complement our strengths and will allow us to accelerate the company's next stage of growth, while strengthening our contribution to the Chilean salmon farming industry."

Tim Schwencke, co-CEO of Saria, said: “This alliance is much more than a financial investment for us. It reflects a shared commitment to the sustainable development of Saria and Fiordo Austral, as well as the ambition to continue growing together throughout the entire value chain.”

The completion of the transaction is subject to obtaining the corresponding regulatory approvals.
