The Scottish Ocean Cluster has appointed seafood veteran Victor West as its first chairman as it opens its inaugural summit in Glasgow today, the Herald reported.

West was the chief executive at Scottish seafood producer Associated Seafoods Ltd (ASL) for 15 years until he stood down last year.

Under his leadership, the business grew significantly and he has remained involved with the company, taking up a new role as a non-executive director on the main board.

He moved to be chief executive of food manufacturer Malcolm Allan and has also served as vice chair of the Developing the Young Workforce Moray Board.

Seafood Scotland chief executive Donna Fordyce said the appointment of a chairman will give the Scottish Ocean Cluster additional credibility.

The Scottish Ocean Cluster’s summit is designed to spark new connections in the seafood sector, showcase emerging technologies and commercial opportunities, and support collaboration that can unlock innovation, investment and sustainable growth.
