The volume of salmonids harvested in Chile increased by 16.1% in the first four months of 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to Subpesca, the Undersecretariat for Fisheries and Aquaculture.

The total harvest was 353,800 tonnes (whole fish equivalent), of which 257,500 tonnes was Atlantic salmon, 16.5% more than in the first four months of 2025.

Atlantic salmon was harvested mainly in the Aysén and Los Lagos regions, with 128,800 tonnes (50%) and 69,200 tonnes (26.9%), respectively.

Coho marginally down

The accumulated coho salmon harvest in January-April 2026 was 65,400 tonnes, a decrease of 0.7% compared to the same period in 2025, mainly due to seasonality. This is the first year that the species has been harvested in April, marking a milestone for the industry and a sign of the expansion of the resource.

The coho volume was harvested mainly in Los Lagos region with 39,000 tonnes (59.7%), followed by Aysén with 26,400 tonnes (40.3%). Coho salmon represented 12% of Chile’s total national aquaculture production, which includes shellfish.

Rainbow trout

The rainbow trout harvest for the first four months of 2026 was 39,000 tonnes, which is 73.1% higher than the same period in 2025, and represents 5.7% of Chile’s total aquaculture production.

The main regions where rainbow trout were harvested were Aysén, with 16,100 tonnes (52.3%), and Los Lagos, with 14,100 tonnes (45.6%). However, trout is falling out of favour with producers who are opting for salmon instead.

Cumulative egg production in April 2026 was 211 million eggs, 22.7% higher than in the same month of 2025. The proportion of egg production by species was 68.5% Atlantic salmon, 29.8% coho salmon and 1.7% rainbow trout.

As of April 2026, no eggs had been imported, just as in the year prior to this one, according to Subpesca.
