Supermarket selling frozen fish as fresh

Supermarket giant Sainsbury's has come under fire for the second time in three months for selling previously frozen fish as fresh, according to the newspaper Aberdeen Press & Journal. Customers at one store claimed they had been misled when buying wild Alaskan salmon, which is defrosted and should not be refrozen. They complained that staff behind the counter told them that the fish was actually fresh, and that re-freezing it would be no problem, the newspaper reported. The store had put the misinformation down to a "lapse in knowledge". In March this year Sainbury’s head of corporate affairs, Helen Lo, apologised to SNP MP Alex Salmond who complained on behalf of a constituent about the very same issue. Ms Lo stated that she was disappointed that the fish was being called "fresh" by some staff. She added: "We are sending a message to all colleagues, reminding them that 'fresh' in the context of fish relates to freshly caught and not freshly defrosted."
