Bakkafrost harvested 23,000 tonnes in Q2

Scotland and Faroes salmon farmer Bakkafrost harvested 23,000 gutted weight tonnes of fish in the second quarter of this year, it said in a trading update today.

Bakkafrost harvested 16,000 gwt with an average weight of 5.0 kilos in the Faroes, and 7,000 gwt with an average weight of 5.9 kilos in Scotland.

In the same quarter last year, Bakkafrost harvested 21,592 gwt, of which 10,226 gwt was harvested in the Faroes and 11,366 gwt in Scotland.

£3.1m mortality cost

Based on preliminary numbers, incident-based mortality costs in Q2 2025 in Scotland are estimated to be DKK 27 million (£3.1m). In the same period last year, the cost of incident-based mortality in Scotland was DKK 3m.

There was no incident-based mortality cost in the Faroes in Q2 2025, nor in Q2 last year.

Bakkafrost stocked 5.4 million smolts in marine farms in the Faroes during Q2 2025, and 0.9 million in Scotland, where its Applecross hatchery is still building up to full capacity.

The company’s feed subsidiary, Havsbrún, sourced 159,500 tonnes of marine raw materials in Q2 and sold 37,500 tonnes of feed and 9,000 tonnes of fish meal.
