Gael Force delivers its strongest pens to Iceland

Inverness-based aquaculture equipment supplier, Gael Force Group, has announced the recent successful installation of its SeaQure range of aquaculture equipment for Icelandic fish farmer, Hábrún.

Working in close collaboration with Hábrún, and local service provider, Sjótækni, which managed all installations and inspections, Gael Force designed, built, and delivered three pens, moorings, and nets to the site in Ísafjörður. Hábrún has permission for a maximum biomass of 700 tonnes of trout on the site.

First Iceland order

It is Gael Force Group's first delivery to Iceland, and the company said all equipment supplied went through rigorous technical analysis to ensure the highest levels of quality, reliability, and longevity in the Icelandic marine environment. This process included advanced simulations of wind, wave, and storm conditions, as well as assessments of the behaviour of floating structures such as pen overtopping and net deflection.

The installation features Gael Force’s proven SeaQureMoor mooring grid, which it said is widely recognised for its durability in some of the most extreme marine environments in the Northern Hemisphere. It is complemented by SeaQureNet HDPE containment nets and bird nets, which combine lightweight construction with high breaking strength to deliver outstanding containment performance and effective protection from predators.

The pens have heavy-duty galvanised brackets for enhanced structural integrity and resilience.
The delivery included HDPE containment nets and bird nets.

The site has been equipped with 120-metre circumference pens with 500mm floatation pipes. The SeaQurePen Ultra, the latest addition to the range, is a steel bracket pen for exposed aquaculture sites. It uses heavy-duty galvanised brackets for enhanced structural integrity and resilience, along with engineered tie rods to ensure optimal load distribution.

Sigurthur Steinthórsson: "We are grateful to Hábrún for placing their trust in us."

Gael Force group sales manager, Sigurthur Steinthórsson, said: “We are pleased to support Hábrún in their plans for growth with the introduction of our SeaQurePen Ultra and wider SeaQure range into their operations. We are grateful to Hábrún for placing their trust in us to deliver robust, fit-for-purpose equipment for use on their site.”

Great confidence

David Kjartansson, operations manager for Hábrún, said: “We are satisfied with the expertise and commitment to quality shown by Gael Force throughout this project.

“Their equipment gives us great confidence in the resilience of our containment system, which is essential for operating in the demanding conditions of our environment.”

Gael Force Group will be showcasing the SeaQurePen Ultra, along with other products, at fish farming trade show Aqua Nor in Trondheim, Norway, on August 19-21 at Stand A-133.

Customers will have have the opportunity to meet Steinthórsson and the company’s other new sales manager, Alessandro Ciattaglia, along with the wider Gael Force team.
