The alpha omega: MOWI-branded Scottish salmon fillets have won a Great Taste award in the Guild of Fine Food's annual search for the tastiest products.

Mowi Scotland celebrates Great Taste award for own-brand fillets

MOWI-branded Scottish salmon fillets have scored a double first in an annual taste test organised by the Guild of Fine Food, which tests thousands of products.

This is the first year that fresh Scottish salmon fillets have received a Great Taste awards, and also the first time that MOWI-brand salmon has achieved this quality recognition. Along with Mowi's product, a fresh fillet from Inverurie butcher and fine foods supplier Donald Russell also received a Great Taste award.

More than 14,000 products were put through the competition’s blind judging process by the Guild’s 500-strong expert panel, with MOWI Scottish salmon fillets being highlighted for a “clean aroma and oily richness”.

Stamp of excellence

Robin Brown, technical and development director at Fife-based Mowi Consumer Products UK, said: “The Great Taste mark is a stamp of excellence and one of the most recognised accolades in the food and drink industry, so we are incredibly honoured for our MOWI Scottish salmon fillets two pack to be recognised this way.”

Great Taste awards value taste above all else. All products in the line-up for judging are blind tasted, with each product removed from its packaging so it cannot be identified, before entering a robust, layered judging process.

Other Scottish salmon products to receive Great Taste awards this year include lightly smoked fillets from Aldi, lightly smoked fresh salmon fillets from Bakkafrost Scotland, lightly smoked salmon from Loch Fyne, and salmon portion with lemon, herb and garlic butter from processor Highland Farms Ltd, based in Maryport, west Cumbria.
