Invergordon-based Carbon Dynamic (Scotland) Ltd, formerly Carbon Dynamic, provided a six-bedroom accommodation block for staff and a three-bedroom house for the farm manager. It is the first project completed by the new company.
The buildings were manufactured and built in Invergordon using visual grade cross laminated timber (CLT) before being transported over to Rum and finalised.
The sustainable materials are environmentally sensitive and have a low carbon footprint. Carbon Dynamic (Scotland) makes timber modular buildings with what it says are exceptional levels of insulation, airtightness and sustainability, providing cost-effective, low-energy accommodation using locally-sourced materials.
Carbon Dynamic (Scotland) Ltd was formed after its predecessor, Carbon Dynamic, went into administration last December because of cashflow problems. The firm was sold to Alness-based construction firm Pat Munro, which set up the new business.
In a blog on the company’s website, Carbon Dynamic (Scotland) managing director Brian Munro said: “We are extremely grateful to Mowi for entrusting the job to us as a new business. It has been a privilege to work with them to deliver this project.
“The efficiency of delivering our turnkey modules to a remote island demonstrates the value and advantage that can be offered through a modular approach.
“We are delighted to be in discussion about further opportunities with Mowi and hope to be able to support them in delivering further projects with further community benefit.”
Mowi construction manager Stephen McCaig said: “We got in touch with Carbon Dynamic, as the modular building solution appealed to us.
“We are delighted with the service that Carbon Dynamic have provided. The off-site approach simplified significantly the build and delivery process and was especially advantageous given the remote location of the site.”
Carbon Dynamic, which was established in 2012, was involved in several high-profile projects, including a village for homeless people set up by charity Social Bite in Granton, Edinburgh.
