The market-setting spot price of Norwegian salmon last week rose to its highest price since the beginning of the country’s coronavirus lockdown in late March.

According to Akvafakta, the spot price increased by NOK 6.74 last week (week 20). It ended at NOK 54.60 / kg, which is the highest price since the first week (week 12) of lockdown in Norway.

However, that price is 7.53 NOK lower than during the same week last year.

High spot prices in January mean the average price so far this year is NOK 62.23 / kg, compared to NOK 62.41 / kg at the same time last year.

In week 19 (May 4-10), 22,882 tonnes of salmon (round weight) were exported from Norway, 4.1% more than the same week in 2019. Exports have been helped by a weak krone, which makes Norway’s fish better value to foreign buyers.
