UK shoppers asked to pick their favourite ASC fish dish
Consumers given choice of 10 supermarket products, including two with Scottish salmon
Consumers in the UK are being asked to choose their favourite farmed seafood from 10 shortlisted by fish farming certification organisation the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) as part of its annual UK awards programme.
The Product of the Year – Consumer Choice category includes MOWI-branded Scottish salmon fillets, and live Golden Shell Mussels by Loch Fyne Oysters Ltd, along with prawns, two sea bass products, crumbed Mediterranean fish fillets, basa (pangasius) fillets, and Sainsbury’s own-brand pesto and Parmigiano Reggiano crusted salmon fillets. The shortlist also includes Amee Jee’s Mega Fish Burgers (59% pangasius), and a fish and seafood casserole mix from frozen foods retailer Iceland.
There’s also a Consumer Choice for wild-caught product in the Marine Stewardship Council’s awards, run under the same programme.
“These awards give the public the opportunity to celebrate their favourite responsibly sourced seafood products, highlighting the role seafood lovers play in driving demand for responsible choices,” the ASC / MSC said in a press release.
Everyone who votes will be entered into a draw for a Le Creuset grill pan.

Fishers, seafood farmers, fish buyers and suppliers, as well as retailers and restaurateurs keen to champion their sustainability credentials, have six weeks to enter the awards ASC / MSC’s other awards categories.
ASC Award Categories include UK Retailer of the Year, UK Retail Supplier of the Year and Brand of the Year. This year, ASC is also introducing the ASC UK Newcomer of the Year Award which will be awarded to an ASC partner that has newly demonstrated a strong commitment to the ASC programme, contributing to a more sustainable future of seafood farming.
Gala event
Following a judging process, the winners will be announced at a gala event in Scotland in October.
Maud van den Haspel, ASC general manager for the UK and Benelux, said: “These awards celebrate the dedication it takes to commit fully to responsible seafood, every single day.
“As ASC continues to grow in the UK, we hope this level of commitment becomes the standard – encouraging more local farmers, processors, and retailers to choose change and help transform the farmed seafood sector for the better.”
