“I know from personal experience that the products and services offered by the companies in ScaleAQ are second to none,” said Smith, who started his new job on Monday.

“Further, I believe in what they are building. The aquaculture industry deserves strong and competent partners, and together with the rest of the team we will help the industry grow and prosper, particularly as we move towards the Scottish Government’s 2030 vison to grow the sector significantly.”

Local presence

ScaleAQ chief commercial officer Stig Førre said: “We are really pleased to get Graham on the team.

“Graham has been in the fish farming industry since 1986 and has the knowledge, skill, and hands-on experience we are looking for.

“A strong local presence is important for us in all regions and having Graham on the team ensures that for UK and Ireland.”

Team of 19

Smith will lead a team of 19 based in Fort William and Shetland, although he will be based in the Largs area, where he lives. He left Scottish Sea Farms last month after 16 years with the company, including 10 as regional production manager for Shetland, so that he could be closer to home.

“Leaving behind the company, my colleagues and Shetland itself after so many years is incredibly tough,” said Smith last month.

“However, after a decade of travelling back and forth from my home on mainland, the time feels right to embark on a new career chapter involving less travel and allowing more time to spend with family.”
