Bakkafrost harvests 12,900 tonnes in Q3

Faroese salmon farmer Bakkafrost harvested 12,900 tonnes (head on gutted equivalent) of fish in the third quarter of this year, it said in a trading update today.

The volume was made up of 3,700 tonnes from Bakkafrost’s Farming North segment and 9,200 tonnes from Farming West.

The company’s Havsbrún feed subsidiary sold 33,900 tonnes of feed in the quarter and sourced 17,800 tonnes of raw materials.

Bakkafrost recently announced an agreement to buy the Scottish Salmon Company and supply it with Havsbrún feed, which has a higher marine ingredients content than standard salmon feeds.

It said supplying SSC would generate a “direct synergy of around NOK 2.5 per kilo gutted salmon”. The savings will gradually come into play after two years as SSC’s existing feed contracts expire.

Bakkafrost’s full Q3 report will be released on November 5.
