
Frozen sales up 26%
Shipments of frozen salmon showed a 26 per cent increase in value, which translates to US$ 565 million more than 2013. Last year the Chilean salmon industry exported 370,059 tonnes of frozen salmonids, worth US $ 2,744 million, of which 81.9 per cent were accounted for by Atlantic and coho salmon, while the remaining 18.1 per cent were trout.
Returns from fresh salmon exports went up 21.2 per cent, while these exports experienced a 19 per cent increase in terms of volume. The Chilean salmon industry exported 190,255 tonnes of fresh salmonids in 2014, worth US$ 1,520 million, compared to 159,841 tonnes, worth US$ 1,254 million, in 2013.
Exports of smoked salmon, however, dropped by 12.2 per cent - fromto 6,552 tonnes, worth US$ 100 million, in 2013 to 6,149 tonnes, worth US$ 87.8 million, last year.
