The TNS Worldpanel figures for the 52 weeks ending 6th September 2009, showed that the value of the retail frozen food market is now worth just over £5.1 billion.

Over the last three years the frozen food market has now grown by over £700 million, with the fish sector growing by more than £140 million. In these three years value growth has been 15.9 per cent but potato products, vegetables, meat and poultry, and fish have all grown by more than 20 per cent in that period.

The data disclosed that the value of frozen fish for the 52 weeks ending 6th September 2009 was £718,633 million - a 4.1 per cent growth compared to the same period last year. The tonnage production for the period was 123,355 tons.

Director general of the British Frozen Food Federation, Brian Young, said that whilst the rate of growth had slowed down a little in the last quarter it is true to say that the frozen food market is now comparing itself against much higher numbers than previously.
